THE MOST COMMON
BRISTOL POTTERY BACK STAMPS (20th Century)
The most frequent enquiry that I get relates to the dating of individual
pieces. Whilst not totally comprehensive the following pictures should
serve as a guide. As well as these marks, Pountneys used a system of
impressed numerals to show the date of manufacture. These can usually be
found on the back of larger items and take the form of three numbers,
the first of which indicates the month and the other two the year, e.g 6
06 indicates June 1906 and so on The marks shown below are some of the
commonest ones that are found, but the list is by no means
comprehensive, and new forms are always turning up. On a later page in
this site I am showing some of the more specialised marks also in use.
Dates too are only approximate, but close enough. |
