During
the twentieth century a very important source of income to the
pottery was the production of promotional items such as jugs , ashtrays
etc. Many of these items particularly the earlier ,pieces were for local
Bristol companies such as Georges Brewery but the wider world was also
encompassed as the examples here show.
Another lucrative
line was hotel and restaurant badgeware for which there was a good
market in the West Country , the heart of the English tourist
industry. Pountneys supplied their 'VITRITE' hotel ware , an extra
tough product to the catering industry both in the home and export
markets. Because of its relative strength a lot of Vitrite has survived
and can be acquired fairly easily
